We had the pleasure of welcoming our sporting partner Tampines Rovers FC and one of their star players, midfielder Saifullah Akbar to a recent team training session.
Saifullah was at Toa Payoh Sport Centre getting a first hand experience of the exhilarating sport of wheelchair rugby.
"it was very interesting, learning how tactics and style of play are put into place."
Saifullah was also struck by the strength and grit on display. "The resilience of the athletes is absolutely incredible. It was an eye-opening session as it taught me that we can overcome obstacles in our lives if we maintain a strong mindset and stick to our guns', he added.
The Tampines Rovers RC midfielder was also there to show his support for Ruck & Roll 2023. a fundraising event that will see participants attempt a triathlon. A previous edition of the event in December 2020 saw friends and clients of Solitaire LLP, a Singapore based law firm complete a round-island bicycle ride of 160km in 10 hours raising $50,000 for WRAS. The funds have been put to good use with the purchase of competition wheelchairs and in defraying the expenses for regional tournaments.
"I am super excited for Ruck & Roll 2023. It will hopefully be a bigger event this time around with the elements of swimming, cycling and running. It will not be easy for many of us to complete the triathlon, but to see all the athletes coming together to overcome the various challenges is heartwarming. "We will definitely give it our all" said WRAS member Aidil Khalip.
